Individuals with autism are characterized by atypical development in the areas of socialization, communication, and behavior. Hope Delivery Systems classifies social skill groups targeting age-appropriate social skills.

3-5 year olds

Focus is on building pre-school/kindergarten skills:

  • sitting and attending to activities
  • following directions
  • circle time (calendar, weather, seasons)
  • turn taking/games/play skills
  • familiarizing children with pre-school songs/nursery rhymes

6-9 year olds

Focus is on building positive social skills for home, school, and in the community

  • listening/following directions
  • positive social behavior (voice volume control, play skills, friendship making skills)
  • coping skills
  • feelings identification

10-12 year olds

Focus is on building positive social skills for home, school, and in the community

  • Non-verbal communication/reading social cues
  • feelings identification
  • coping skills
  • problem solving

13-17 year olds

Focus is on building positive social relationships and looking towards the future

  • friendship skills
  • coping skills
  • interest inventory/future planning for transition from school to work or higher education
