What is Autism?
Autism is a developmental disorder that impairs an individual in the areas of communication, behavior, and social interaction. Even the basic social skills that most of us take for granted must be specifically taught to children with autism. Social skills groups are an excellent way to provide social skills training to individuals with autism.
Hope Delivery Systems (HDS) utilizes a variety of techniques to teach appropriate social skills, including, but not limited to:
- social stories
- comic strip conversations
- direct instruction
- role playing
- modeling
